All the wood for a bass

Post by gilmour »

So strictly speaking this isn't a bass, but it could be...

I have all the bits of wood required to make one, in fact there's a little bit more than you need.

I'm having a big clear out and have had this wood for a number of years and not had the time to do anything with so I'll say goodbye knowing that it will make a great project for someone.

So we have:
  • Bookmatched Spalted Maple Top
  • Mahogany Body
  • Wenge neck blank (suitable for a bolt on)
  • Five piece laminate neck (suitable for neck through) I think it's
  • Maple/mahogany/maple/mahogany/maple
  • Pre slotted Brazilian Rosewood finger board (34" scale, 20 radius)
All in all some lovely bits of wood.

I think £100 for the lot is a fair price? Happy for you to come collect or I can send it out if you cover costs :

Not sure why I am asking as I know I haven't got time to actually build anything, but can you give some dimensions for the neck blank and body blank width?

If that started as figured maple, it has indeed been quite a while ;)

Lovely top nonetheless, that is going to make one loverly looking bass.
Finnbass.com - it has a certain, indefinable, double entendre quality about 't which ye canna quite put yer finger on.....

Hi Rob - no panic I am sort of hoping the neck blank isn't wide enough for a 5 string so I can stop thinking about it as even being a remote possibility that I might make something.

The Wenge certainly is (probably get a 6 out of it) as is the Fingerboard. I will try and measure up tonight if I get a minute. I'm silly busy every Mon - Weds, then twiddle my thumbs on a Thurs/Fri!

Looks like a great project but I think I'll pass after my last woodworking project:
